Lawn Mowing in Kings Park

Kings Park is about three kilometres from our base in Delahey. That matters more than it sounds. A lot of mowing outfits quote a minimum that assumes half an hour of driving each way, so a modest front-and-back lawn gets priced like a much bigger job. We're already in the area most weeks, so we can take on the smaller yards without loading the price.

The suburb shares its postcode, 3021, with St Albans, and a fair bit of its character too. Most of it went up through the late sixties and seventies — solid brick homes on compact blocks, with a good deal of the yard already paved or concreted. The lawns tend to be modest, but the nature strips out front are wide.

That combination is why plenty of Kings Park jobs are quick fortnightly visits rather than half-day efforts. Mow, edge, do the strip, blow the paths down, take the clippings.

The nature strip is yours. Brimbank, like most Melbourne councils, expects residents to keep the nature strip in front of their property mown. We do it as part of the regular visit rather than adding it to the bill — it takes a few minutes while we're already there.

Concrete radiates heat. Where a lawn is boxed in by paving and driveway, the grass either side of it dries out and browns off first in summer. Keeping the cut a notch higher through January and February helps far more than extra water does.

Kikuyu will find the cracks. Kikuyu is everywhere in this pocket and it runs. Left alone through spring it will be into the garden beds and across the path within weeks, so edging regularly does more than just tidy the look.
