Mowing, hedging, tree work and gutter clearing across Avondale Heights VIC 3034 — for established gardens that need a bit more than a quick cut.
Avondale Heights is in the City of Moonee Valley, tucked into a bend of the Maribyrnong River, and it's a noticeably greener suburb than most of the ones we work in. The blocks are generous, a lot of them slope, and the gardens were planted decades ago and have grown into themselves.
That changes the job. A cut here is rarely just a cut. There are established hedges that need shaping rather than shearing, mature gums and eucalypts dropping constantly, garden beds that have quietly expanded, and slopes that a heavy mower has no business being on.
We come set up for it — smaller machines for the banks, proper hedging gear, and a trailer for the green waste, which there is always more of here than people expect.
Banks and terraced lawns cut safely with the right gear rather than a ride-on that shouldn't be up there.
Established hedges cut to line and kept dense, not just flattened. Cuttings taken away.
Limbs cleared off rooflines, gutters and power lines. Removals and stump grinding when a tree has had its day.
Worth doing twice a year under gums. We clear them and take the debris with us.
Gums fill gutters year-round. Eucalypts don't drop on a schedule the way deciduous trees do — they shed bark, leaves and small limbs all year. Under a mature gum, gutters want clearing twice a year rather than once, particularly before summer.
Shade changes the lawn. Under established canopy the grass thins out no matter how often it's cut. Raising the mowing height in shaded sections lets what's there hold on, and there's no point watering it harder — light is the limit, not water.
Hedges want two cuts a year. One hard cut a year makes a hedge woody and gappy at the base. Two lighter trims — one after the spring flush, one in early autumn — keeps it dense and much easier to maintain long term.
Slopes are a safety job. Steep banks are where mowing injuries happen. We cut across the slope with machines light enough to control, which is slower but the only sensible way to do it.
